Music Unlimited was launched back in December of 2010 (although its full and rather cumbersome title is in fact ‘Music Unlimited, powered by Qriocity’). It is a program that grants its users access to over six million tracks from the libraries of such prolific music labels as Warner, EMI, Universal and, naturally, Sony.

The service was initially launched for Playstation 3 users, those with Bravia-branded televisions/Blu-ray players and customers with PSPs (Sony’s portable Playstation gaming system). However, it has been confirmed by Shawn Layden, executive vice president of Sony Network Entertainment, that the service will soon be available for Sony’s latest smartphone/portable gaming offering, the Sony Xperia Play.

“What we’re trying to do at Sony Network Entertainment is bring all those different content domains into a more comprehensive space for the user, so you don’t have to go chasing around in three or four different directions to find that. If we can bring it all together with one wallet, one sign in, one password, and give you access to music, movies, games etc, that’s a better value proposition for the user. All of us want more simplicity in our lives,” enthused Layden.
